Speech Writing – Graham the Wedding Speech Coach

Graham was introduced to me by a fellow wedding professional, as I was looking for some help and advice to assist in that all important job of writing a fantastic speech. Graham and I had a telephone consultation where I found him to be informative but most of all totally approachable!

The top 3 tips from my chat with Graham (to get you started!) are…
1. Prepare! I know I sound like a teacher, but I used to be one. Get your arse in gear. Have a note on your phone for jotting down little anecdotes, feelings and stories – it’ll help you to get your content together and make the best of the material you have for your Groom’s speech.

2. Personalise! Yes, you can google topics for your speech and it’s really nice to have a framework, but everyone listening is there to hear about YOU and your wonderful partner in crime. Give ’em what they want! Make it personal and special to you, speak truly about the things you love about that person… (this also makes photos awesome, by the way!)

3. PRACTISE. Here’s the teacher in me again… but just like anything, practise makes perfect! Speak it to yourself in the car on the way to work, mutter to yourself in the shower, have a night in with your best mate and have two fingers of your beer every time you screw up… I dunno! It means that on the day, no matter how nervous you are, you’ll be better off to say what you want to without reading off a piece of paper and feeling like you’re a Groom gone wrong!

Some of us dream about THE DRESS. Some of us don’t know what we want, and some of us agonise about the expectation. I stumbled upon Erica’s wedding dress wonderland quite by chance. She’s fairly near my house and does AWESOME stuff. Real Green Dress finds, restores, and cleans vintage wedding dresses in sizes 8-16 from Edwardian to 1980s. I’d heartily recommend giving this lady a visit for a true one-off gown. To add to the experience, Erica has a fine eye for styling and detail. She was a definite expert in her stock. Wowzer!

Twirl Bridal Boutique – Unusual Wedding Dress Boutique

If you are looking for the traditional bridal shop experience with your Ma and MOH, Twirl Bridal Boutique! Based in Petersfield, Twirl Bridal gives the most typical experience when shopping for THE wedding dress. Despite this though, they don’t carry typical wedding gowns. A large range of coloured, floral and unusual length dresses are available to try on.

If you want something a little different, then this is a fabulous place to start looking.

So there we have it, my three top picks for choosing a wedding dress. If I was YOU (which I’m not so bear with), I’d be looking for something which got me all excited. That may well not be what I’m suggesting here, but then I do cherish the unusual!

A Comic Book Wedding with Lightsabers and Lego – what’s not to love?

As there’s no wedding this weekend, it’s time for a throwback to this gorgeous wedding from 5th November 2016. Raquel and Robin got married on a day to remember-remember, and styled themselves a bit of a bonanza.
Raquel was extremely handy in getting all the details together for the day, she made her amazing flowers for a start… Check them out below – they’re comic book wedding flowers held together in a lightsaber handle. If you’re having an alternative bash where things aren’t the “norm”, then you can do well by planning and preparing for a DIY wedding!

Today is also the birthday of Steph from Bake to Differthe very clever lady who made the fantastic and funny Lego Wedding Cake below…
The way that Robin and Raquel threw their personalities onto their wedding day was relentless – exactly as it should be! Everywhere I looked there was a fab, quirky and most importantly COLOURFUL addition to the day. Whether that be their pop-up photobooth, guests in handmade clothing, table decor or a handmade comic waistcoat by the Groom’s mother!

Robin had a surprise up his sleeve too, planned with the help of the good-humoured Registrar… When the time came for Robin to lead Raquel from their ceremony, traditionally Raquel stood on his left hand side – nearest his heart, but also so that his right side was free to defend her honour… with the lightsaber which had been hidden behind the curtain the whole time…!

So many laughs and silly faces during Robin & Raquel’s wedding, anyway. They and their friends and family had a real hoot. Some of Raquel’s family attended from Spain and Columbia – they made the most of the party!
A real joy to photograph, in any case! More cool weddings please!

Sneak Peek: RMA Sandhurst played host to the wonderful marriage of Dick and Claire Crombie

So in all the 22 years I lived a stone’s throw from the Royal Military Academy in Sandhurst, I only went in a handful of times for open days… I hadn’t been to the Chapel Christ The King, and so when I attended Claire and Dick’s wedding rehearsal last Friday night, I was very enchanted by the circular building and gorgeous decor.

I waited by the gate to get a personal and a car pass to enter, and then Claire arrived and jumped in my car – “I’M COMING IN WITH YOU!” – Hi mate! Claire’s been my Mum’s friend for an age, she used to live near us when we were kids, so naturally when I found out she was getting married I leapt at the opportunity to photograph for them.

Now, I’d not met Dick before… He’s naughty 😀 A man full of character who has served as part of the British Army for many a moon. Achieving so much over so many years in fact that our very own Queen decorated him with an OBE in this years’ Honours List.

Praise indeed, Colonel Crombie.

There is also a tiny interesting Hana-Fact here. On my mother’s side, we are Crombies… so we may be distantly related – ooherrrr! ANYWAY. Check these grins out…!

If you could pass this onto Dick I will be most grateful.

Hi Dick – after seeing your bit in the Bradfieldian (I was the red-haired fellow from the Close). I did a quick internet trawl and come on this. Many Congratulations on both your OBE and you nuptials.

I think that the last time we met was when we were both at the end of our respective Sandhurst courses and I seem to remember a few beers being sunk! It is great to see you looking just the same if slightly more grizzled.

Once again many Congratulations to you and Claire and the best of luck to you both. DickReplyCancel
